Stronghold 4 buildings cost wood in the demo: 10 for an Apple Farm, 20 for a Wheat, Dairy or Hops Farm and 50 for a Bakery, Cheese Workshop or Brewery, each with one worker. 7 of the 22 buildings below have confirmed costs. Plan a build and the calculator adds up the wood and workers.

Stronghold 4 food chains
Food in Stronghold 4 comes from farms. Apples are ready to eat straight from the farm; bread, cheese and ale need a second building that takes the raw material from the stockpile and turns it into the finished product. Here is the wood and the number of workers to set up one of each building in a chain:

Apples are the cheapest start: 10 wood and one worker. Cheese and ale each cost 70 wood for the pair of buildings. Bread needs three buildings, and the Windmill's cost is not confirmed yet. Ale is not food, but the popularity panel lists food, ale, religion, tax and fear factor as separate lines, so a brewery helps keep your peasants happy.

The army buildings pay off in the Stronghold 4 units and army calculator: every soldier needs gold and a peasant, and most need honor and a weapon from the armory.
Not confirmed yet
15 buildings appear in the demo, but no footage we have checked shows a readable cost yet, among them the Windmill, the Woodcutter's Hut, the Stone Quarry and the Iron Mine. We add each cost as soon as it is confirmed and check every number again when Early Access starts on December 7. You can build all of these yourself in Free Build in the free Stronghold 4 demo.

In the demo, an Apple Farm costs 10 wood; a Wheat Farm, Dairy Farm and Hops Farm cost 20 wood each. Every farm needs one worker.
How do you make bread in Stronghold 4?
Build a Wheat Farm, a Windmill and a Bakery. The farm grows wheat, the windmill turns it into flour, and the bakery takes the flour from the stockpile and bakes bread.
How do you make ale in Stronghold 4?
Build a Hops Farm (20 wood) and a Brewery (50 wood). The brewery takes hops from the stockpile and makes ale, which has its own line in the popularity panel.
What is the cheapest food in Stronghold 4?
