What the numbers mean for you
The two tiers differ only in the processor and the graphics card. Memory is 16 GB in both, which is more than many strategy games ask for: Firefly built Stronghold 4 in Unreal Engine 5, with the largest maps the series has had. If your PC has 8 GB, plan an upgrade or test the free demo first. The graphics card needs at least 3 GB of its own memory (a GTX 1060 3 GB); the recommended RTX 2060 has 6 GB.
An SSD is recommended in both tiers. A hard drive will still install the game, but expect longer loading times. Keep 33 GB free, plus room for updates during Early Access.
Windows only
Windows only: 64-bit processor and operating system required. No macOS or Linux version on Steam. There is no PlayStation, Xbox or Mac version announced; our Stronghold 4 platforms page goes through each one.
Languages
Stronghold 4 supports 17 languages for the interface and subtitles: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish (Spain), Czech, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Turkish, Ukrainian, Hungarian, Thai. Full voice acting is available in English, German, Polish.
If the game or demo crashes
If the game crashes while loading, Firefly's support page suggests updating your graphics driver and starting the game with the DirectX 11 option (Steam Library, right-click the game, Properties, General, Launch Options). If you still crash, the in-game Crash Reporter sends Firefly the details; adding a line about what you were doing helps. Every other known demo problem is on our Stronghold 4 demo problems page.
