Stronghold 4 is the next main game in Firefly Studios' castle-building strategy series, a prequel to the original Stronghold set in medieval England. You build a castle and its economy, keep your peasants content with food, taxes and honour, and defend or besiege walls in real time. Is Stronghold 4 a prequel?

Yes. It is set in medieval England years before the original Stronghold from 2001, and Firefly calls it a narrative prequel to the first game.

There is no game called Stronghold Crusader 4. Stronghold 4 is the fourth main game in the series; the Crusader games are a separate line, most recently Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition.

What is new in Stronghold 4?

Weather that affects your castle (snow hinders crops, heavy rain cuts archery range), larger maps, castle cosmetics, traps and tactical military structures, moats and tunnelers, the Captain unit, wool and weaving, and the return of the honour system.
